UK-based global pizza brand PizzaExpress has announced its plans to enter the US market, with its first location opening in the state of Florida in 2025.
The brand, known for its “proper pizza” and dining experience with live music and distinct decor, aims to introduce a new pizza concept to American consumers.
The company, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025, has established an international presence with 360 restaurants in the UK and Ireland and 110 international locations across 12 markets.
With annual revenues exceeding $500m, PizzaExpress has a handcrafted menu, which includes signature dishes such as the Padana, La Reine and the lighter Leggera pizza.
The brand's commitment to quality pizza was established by its founder, Peter Boizot, in the 1960s in London, and has since grown into a global name.
To facilitate its US expansion, PizzaExpress is partnering with the franchising group Purple Square, led by chief executive officer and president Vik Patel.
Patel, with more than two decades of experience in the US market operating 245 franchise locations, will be instrumental in bringing PizzaExpress's 60-year legacy to the US.
Music is a core element of the PizzaExpress experience, with the brand owning six live music venues and its own record label, PX Records.
As it debuts in Florida, the company plans to introduce full-service live and "live light" music venues, ranging from 2,500 to 3,800ft², aiming to set its brand apart in the US market.
PizzaExpress chief development officer Chris Holmes said: "To debut in the US, it was vital to find an experienced franchise partner who shares our passion and vision to deliver delicious pizzas while simultaneously offering a unique dining experience."
"With Purple Square, we're confident we've found the perfect partner to help raise the bar for pizza in the United States. Together, we're bringing the best of PizzaExpress to new audiences, the home of affordable everyday celebrations, where showtime meets dinnertime – whether you're dining with family, mates or dates."
PizzaExpress aims to carve out a significant presence in the US and plans to expand to 1,000 restaurants globally by 2030.
