As the altcoin market shows signs of heating up, Scott Melker, Host of The Wolf of All Streets podcast, sat down with George Tung, Host of CryptosRus, to discuss the possibility of an impending alt season.

The conversation delved into recent significant moves by altcoins like Ripple and Algorand, and what these shifts could mean for the broader crypto landscape.

"We've been seeing some of it — [Ripple's token XRP] pulling many multiples, HBAR, Algorand, alt tokens that some people thought would never really move, making four and five times moves in a matter of weeks," Melker observed. He questioned whether this surge signals a deeper shift in the market: "Is this a signal that we're about to see that going further down the risk curve and further down the market capital list for crypto?"

George Tung referred to the current situation as a "mini altcoin season," highlighting the traditional four-year cycle of bitcoin. "Traditionally speaking, bitcoin follows a four-year cycle. Whenever bitcoin tops out, and that usually happens like the very tail end of a four-year cycle, you see the money flow out and they go into the altcoins, which is basically everything else, anything outside of bitcoin," he explained. Tung believes that while this year is different, the excitement in the market is driving this phenomenon.

He pointed to several factors fueling the current rally: "We're seeing the Santa rally right now, and also we're seeing a new administration. We're seeing a new president come in and we're seeing a whole plethora of news with a new SEC chair that's possibly going to be a lot more pro-crypto." Tung emphasized the growing confidence among retail investors and the anticipation of what's to come next year.

Ripple has surged more than 400% over the last month. Algorand has advanced by about the same amount.

"History doesn't always repeat, but it tends to rhyme," Tung remarked, acknowledging that while this cycle is unique — with institutional leadership, declining bitcoin reserves on exchanges, and the emergence of bitcoin spot ETFs — it shares similarities with past cycles.

Melker concluded optimistically, "If what happens in 2025, what we think happens is going to happen, then these Monday interviews are going to be a lot of fun for the next year."
